A new program called Summer EBT, or “SUN Bucks,” has been authorized by a bipartisan U.S. Congress to provide food dollars to low-income families with school-aged children over the summer months.
The program is proven to reduce food insecurity and improve children’s nutrition during summer break. Governor Shapiro’s administration announced that the Commonwealth would participate in this program beginning in the summer of 2024. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversees the program, and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) coordinates the benefit issuance in Pennsylvania.
To obtain SNAP benefits, you must apply in the state in which you currently live and you must meet certain requirements, including resource and income limits, which are described on the website. SNAP income and resource limits are updated annually.
To apply for WIC, call the toll-free WIC Hotline 1-800-WIC-WINS to be connected to a WIC office staff member who will answer your questions and schedule your appointment, or you can get started ONLINE! Once your appointment is scheduled, please take the time to review the list of required items needed for your initial visit to the WIC office.
ACAA is a non-profit organization serving the low-income and disadvantaged. Armstrong Community Action assists individuals with such concerns as nutrition, housing, transportation, education, job training, job placement and self sufficiency.
